Small update regarding private messages:
Registered users can now contact me and any future administrators by PM, and I / administrators can reply. General member-to-member private messaging remains disabled.
That distinction is deliberate and was again complex to build. Hosting private conversations between users would add an entirely separate processing purpose: the forum would store not only public posts, but private message content and communication metadata. Under European data-protection law, that brings additional responsibilities concerning transparency and legal basis, access control and security, data minimisation, retention and deletion, data-access requests and possible data breaches.
It would also inevitably create a new category of complaints involving unwanted messages, harassment and disputes over private communications. For a small independently operated support forum, I cannot responsibly take on that additional role merely to provide a general social-messaging service.
PMs are therefore available as a direct channel to the administrator, but not for private conversations between members. I think that is the best compromise.
