Here is an image I photographed several years ago in the redwood forests of Northern California. Life has a way of getting in the way, and I haven’t been able to get out and shoot for quite a few years—but that’s about to change. 😊

I’m currently trying to reacquaint myself with CP so I can get back to shooting, developing, and printing again.

Have fun working with this negative. I’m curious to see what you do with it. Hopefully, it makes for an interesting challenge.

I'd love to try, but you need to upload a 16bit tiff file.

Interesting, it was a 16bit tiff when it left.. At least I thought it was. I’ll look at it again.

Yes, I uploaded a 16-bit TIFF, but the forum software seems to change it to a GIF.

I think you might need to not use the "inline" option. Just attach the tiff file and press submit.

In case there is a problem I must fix it, I would not be aware of one but you can send the Tiff by Wetransfer or similar and I'll see it gets in here :-)

Hello, it's an interesting shot but a 16b Tiff file would be definitively better than a 8b GIF.

The attachment option does not preserve the original file. Here is a Google Drive link for the image. I am especially interested in seeing how you remove the “color noise” from the shadows, if possible.

Edit by CO: Thank you. File added to your original post as Tiff. I still have no clue what the problem might have been. I'm pretty sure Tiff to Gif conversion is beyond this board's abilities...

Yes, lovely shot.

I like Lucc's interpretation with the warm, almost reddish tones in the fog. Maybe not accurate to the scene, but it gives a nice atmosphere.

Feel free to upload a much larger version as well. Then it would be easier to look at what can be done about the shadow noise.

From your 16b tiff. Can I ask what was used to scan? Scanner or camera?
Jpeg and 16b Tiff.

ICG 330i drum scanner (8-bit scanner). The scanner is currently undergoing a conversion to a 16-bit scanner by an ingenious fellow in Finland. Truly amazing work he has done to reverse engineer the Transputter board.

We would have loved to see your version, but it would have been especially helpful to be able to work on an unresized file.

The noise from the scan is still where you left it :-)
It would be interesting to see what a reproduction from a medium format digital camera looks like.

This is your beautiful photo; it's a real shame it's just a test.
